Most people never look at their soffit and fascia until something is already wrong. Then they notice the signs: a paint line that is peeling and bubbling, a dark stain spreading along the roof edge, a soffit panel that has dropped or come loose, or a gutter that is sagging and starting to pull away from the house. Sometimes it shows up inside as a water mark on a ceiling, or as wasps and squirrels finding a way into the attic.
Here is what is really going on. Fascia is the board that runs along the edge of your roof, and it is what your gutters are screwed into. What you feel is the worry that one small stain means a big, hidden bill. That is a fair worry, and it is exactly why this work should start with someone who can tell you how far the damage really goes before anyone quotes a repair.
Soffit and fascia is one of those jobs where the difference between a real fix and a cover-up is hidden until it fails again. A lot of crews will wrap shiny aluminum right over soft, rotted wood, hand you a clean-looking roof edge, and leave the rot working underneath. A year or two later the gutter is sagging again and the bill is bigger.
