Here is the part most people get wrong. Central Florida sand drains fast on a normal day, so folks assume their yard can handle anything. Then the wet season hits. Ocala gets around 52 inches of rain a year, and from June through September the afternoon storms drop several inches in a hurry. A single three-inch storm can push the water table up a foot or more, which means the sand fills from below and has nowhere left to put the water on top. The problem is the ribs. Those inside ridges grab leaves, silt, and sand and hold them, so the pipe slowly packs solid. Because corrugated pipe is flexible, it also sags between supports and forms low “bellies” where water and debris sit and clog.
